José Barrero’s sacrifice fly seals the Águilas’ fate in the LIDOM. (+Cuban Winter League Report)

Although he did not collect a hit on the evening José Barrero lifted a sixth inning sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run during the Estrellas Orientales 3-2 win over the Águilas Cibaeñas in the LIDOM. The Cuban shortstop saw his average fall to .125 in the Dominican postseason.

The Estrellas are now 3-2 in the Round Robin while the Águilas Cibaeñas are not at the bottom of the standings with a 1-4, two games behind the second place green team. The top two teams in the four team postseason will face off in the league’s final with a spot at the Serie del Caribe at stake.

During the regular season Barrero hit .227 with three longballs, 23 runs batted in and also slashed .314/.386/.700. The Cuban infielder signed a minor league deal with the St. Louis Cardinals for the upcoming season. This signing also includes an invite to Spring Training. Barrero has also seen action in the majors with Cincinnati and has been in the Texas Rangers organization.
