Alay Lago scores twice in “El Tren’s” loss. (+Cuban Winter League Report)

Alay Lago collected two hits in five trips to the plate and scored twice, but El Tren del Norte fell to the Leones de León by a count of 14-13 in the Nicaraguan Winter League Final. The reigning league MVP is hitting a robust .371 in the series and his team now leads the final 2-1.

In the LVBP reliever Richard Guasch continues to pitch effectively in the Round Robin. Although Zulia fell to Magallanes 9-8, the right-hander tossed a scoreless inning in relief in which he fanned two of the four batters he faced. The hurler has not allowed a run in six innings paced during the Venezuelan postseason.

In the LIDOM and even though he did not factor in the decision Norge Ruiz pitched 4⅓ innings of three-hit ,three-run ball in Escogido’s 8-6 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas. The Cuban-American righty also retired five via the strikeout. Ruiz now sports a 4.32 earned run average in the Dominican Round Robin.
