Cubans continue to sign contracts in the current day in México. Henry Urrutia (Bravos de León) and Yadiel Hernández (Tecolotes de Dos Laredos) reached agreements with the teams to return to the upcoming season in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.
Urrutia the 2022 LMB batting champion with Saltillo split the season with León and the Saraperos in 2024. Combined hit .329 on the campaign (.327 with Saltillo, .390 with León) has not slowed down a bit with the lumber at his 37 years of age. This winter in the LIDOM, a league of whom he was also the batting king in 2022 he hit .262 in only 122 at-bats with the Gigantes del Cibao.
Hernández who was an ex-big leaguer with the Washington Nationals slashed .300/.391/.479/.870 with 14 longballs and 70 runs batted in over 93 games last season with the Tecolotes. The native of Matanzas, Cuba figures to be a key bat in Dos Laredos lineup this season. At 37 years of age the outfielder is towards the tail end of his career, but is still a dangerous hitter based on his experience.
