The Liga Mexicana de Béisbol keeps on loading up its league with Cuban talent. The Pericos de Puebla added talented outfielder J.P. Martínez and infielder Josh Fuentes inked a deal to return with the Leones de Yucatán. Both players have seen time on the grand stage.
Martínez he has seen action in the big leagues with the Braves and Rangers hitting a combined .220 in 50 at-bats. This winter the speedy outfielder on played in five games with the Estrellas Orientales of the LIDOM going in hitless in nine trips to the plate. In Atlanta’s farm system last season Martínez slashed .233/..334/.350/.684 in 108 games.
In the majors Fuentes played a total of 149 games, with 103 hits (19 doubles, a three triples and 12 home runs), he also drove in 57 runs and scored 52, with an .243 average. In the minors, he saw action in 744 games, he swatted 778 hits, had 420 RBIs and scores 402 runs. He also swipes 33 bags. His last season in the minors was in 2023 on the Braves farm.
In two seasons with the Leones de Yucatán the Cuban-American slugger hits .242 with 13 longballs, 17 doubles, 2 triples and 46 runs batted in over 108 games. Fuentes will battle for and infield spot with the felines. He will join Cubans Odrisamer Despaigne, Yadir Drake, Yolbert Sánchez and Elían Leyva with Yucatán.
