With the start of the Liga Mayor de Venezuela slated for commencement in July of this year, teams from the league are starting to fill the roster for the upcoming campaign and the Marineros de Carabobo added two Cuban hurlers to add depth to their pitching staff.
Right-handers Javier Mirabal and Yuniesky García have inked deals with the Venezuelan squad and could be major pieces in the Marineros rotation for the 2023 league champions. Both pitchers have seen action in the Serie Nacional and with the Cuban National Team in international events.
Last season Mirabal saw action with the Bravos de León in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (0-0, 6.28 ERA, 14.1 IP, 10 ER). He also has experience in the 2023-24 contest with the Águilas de Mexicali of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico. The hurler was also part of Cuba’s taxi squad for the 2023 World Baseball Classic and was part of the pitching staff in the Central American Games.
In García case he will begin the season in Cuban Liga Élite and the head to Venezuela when the Liga Mayor commences their season. This winter the righty posted 1-3 record, 3.03 earned run average and fanned 33 in 35⅔ innings with the Gigantes de Rivas of the Liga Nicaragüense de Béisbol Profesional.
