Andy Ibáñez slugged his first homer of the spring and solo-shot in the second inning off Jesus Luzardo to lead Detroit’s 17-7 win over the Phillies. The Cuban infielder also drove in two more runs via a third inning single to watch his average rise to .200 on the spring.
José Barrero went yard for the second time of the spring via a seventh inning two-run blast, but the Cardinals still fell to Houston 6-5. The shortstop is hitting a solid .273 on the preseason and is looking good in his battle for a roster spot.
Aroldis Chapman tossed a scoreless inning in which he struck out a hitter Boston’s 4-2 victory over the Rays. The flamethrowing left-hander notched his first hold of the spring and has yet to allow a run 2⅔ innings pitched this preseason.
