Former Major Leaguer Yasmany Tomás will be with Industriales again, this time in the III Liga Élite of Cuban Baseball. Industriales finished in fourth place in the last National Baseball Series and earned its inclusion for the second consecutive year in the Cuban tournament. For his part, Tomás returned to Cuban baseball during the Postseason of the 62nd Serie Nacional and was also present in the last year’s (SNB 63).
Recently in an interview with journalist Guillermo Rodríguez he commented: “Joining Industriales quickly is something that helps me a lot, because I don’t lose the rhythm of playing and I think that being here is going to be good for the team.I have work in the summer, I have offers from the independent league in the United States, in Mexico I have several interested teams as well, in Venezuela.”
But I want to be with Industriales and with my family, which is the most important thing,” he added about his decision to remain playing in Cuba during this summer stage before accepting a professional contract. In the second edition of the Elite League, Tomás could not be present because he was fulfilling his contract with the Cañeros de Los Mochis of the ARCO Mexican Pacific League. Precisely, in his third consecutive year with the Los Mochis team, the team fell in the semifinals of the league tournament against the Tomateros de Culiacán.
“I see a very balanced team, the base of the team is the pitching; we have very good pitchers. Our hitting is solid as we have a solid team and this year we are going to be in the fight for a title,” he commented about the Industriales team in view of the upcoming national event. Tomás was rejected by the Cuban authorities to participate in the Premier 12 due to his conditioning, however he has had an excellent showing in the talented Mexican winter circuit.
During his participation the ARCO he led the regular season in home runs with 13, also hit 10 doubles and drove in 41 runs. During the postseason he also posted excellent numbers to support the cause, but they finally fell by the wayside and could not repeat as champions like they did 2022-23 title, a season in which “El Tanque” was awarded the league’s MVP. “Right now my motivation is to play with Industriales and to lead the team to a championship again, it does not matter if it is the Elite or the Serie Nacional, right now it is my goal. “I’m not interested in going to the national team,” he added about a new opportunity to play with the team from the capital.
In 13 playoff games in Mexico, he posted an excellent .866 OPS, swatted 14 hits in 48 at-bats (AVG: .292), two doubles, three home runs and drove in 14 runs. Now, after 182 regular season games in Mexico, he has launched 33 home runs and 133 RBIs to become one of the circuit’s most feared slugger.
