Daysbel Hernandez, from the Atlanta Braves, has confirmed his interest in representing Cuba in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic. According to reports, the Cuban Baseball Federation reached out to the 28-year-old pitcher, and Hernández has expressed his willingness to participate, pending approval from his MLB organization.
Hernandez made his major league debut on July 23, 2023, when he was called up to the Braves and faced the Milwaukee Brewers. In his debut, he pitched one inning of relief, striking out three batters, and earning his first career win.
In the 2024 season, Hernandez made 16 appearances, pitched 18 innings, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts. His inclusion in the World Baseball Classic would add significant depth to the Cuban pitching staff.
Hernandez joins a growing list of Cuban players interested in the tournament, including Andy Ibáñez, Yoan Moncada, and Andy Pagés.
