Cuban infielder Guillermo Avilés is headed to Venezuela this summer and will be signing with the Samanes de Aragua in the upcoming Liga Mayor de Béisbol Profesional. Sources revealed to me yesterday that the slugger would be signing with the squad.
Avilés has seen professional action with the Cañeros de Los Mochis in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico in 2021 slashing .280/.357/.480/.837 with a homerun and six runs batted in over seven games with the Aztec squad. The infielder has also seen action in four Series del Caribe with Cuba hitting .258 with three runs batted in over 62 trips to the plate.
In 13 seasons in the Serie Nacional Avilés slashes .310/.421/.486/.907 with 101 longballs, 563 runs batted in and 141 doubles. Look for the first baseman to be a major part of the Samanes lineup in the upcoming campaign. There is a big possibility that the native of Granma could hit cleanup for Aragua. He will join his countrymen Yusniel Padrón and César García on the Samanes roster when the season starts in May.
