Yanquiel Fernández smacked his first longball of the spring, a solo-shot in the eighth inning of Colorado’s 8-5 loss to the Reds. Although he was sent down to the minors later in the day the Cuban slugger is hitting a solid .269 on the spring.
Although the Cardinals were walloped by Marlins 12-5, José Barrero had an excellent afternoon at the plate. The native of Havana collected two hits in three trips, drove in two runs, scored a run and stole a base. The talented utilityman is hitting .286 in his fight for a roster spot with the Cardinals.
Adrián Morejón notched his first hold of the season San Diego’s 7-5 win over the White Sox. The left-hander tossed a scoreless inning in relief during which he gave up a hit. The hurler has yet to allow a run during spring training in six innings of work.
