Liván Moinelo (2-0, 0.75 ERA) earned his second win in two starts, helping the SoftBank Hawks (3-6) to a 5-2 victory over the Orix Buffaloes (7-2) in the opener of a three-game series at Kyocera Dome in Osaka during the young season of the Nippon Professional Baseball League.
In five scoreless innings, the Cuban left-hander allowed six hits and no walks, while also striking out four of the 20 batters faced and finished with 98 pitches. His fastball reached 94.4 mph. Moinelo didn’t get his second win until his seventh start last season. The hurler led the Pacific League last season with a 1.88 earned run average.
Also in the NPB, Raidel Martinez tossed a scoreless inning Yomiuri’s 3-3 tie with the DeNa Baystars. The right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba has yet to allow a run in five innings pitched on the campaign with the Giants.
