Raidel Martínez earned his sixth save of the year after allowing two hits, no runs and striking out two in one inning of relief in Yomiuri’s 6-4 win over Yakult. His ERA remains at 0.00. The flamethrowing right-hander now has 172 saves in his Nippon League career.
Martínez has not allowed a run in 6⅔ innings pitched on the season and has also struck out five batters over that. The Cuban has undoubtedly been the most dominant reliever in the NPB over that last three seasons averaging more than 35 saves a season over that span.
Roenis Elías dropped his third game of the season after allowing six runs via eight hits in 5⅔ innings of work during Fubon’s 7-2 to China Trust. The left-hander from Guantánamo, Cuba saw his rise to 5.31 on the young season in the CPBL.
