Aroldis Chapman tossed a scoreless ninth inning in which he gave up a hit and struck out a batter to secure the Red Sox’s 3-1 win over the Mets. The Cuban left-hander saw his ERA fall to 2.00 on the season and has saved 342 games over his 16-year career.
Although Andy Ibáñez laced an opportune ninth inning run-scoring double, his best efforts could not prevent a Detroit Tigers’ 11-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The team’s utilityman is now hitting a solid .254 and has driven in 13 runs on the season.
