Yoelkis Guibert named MVP of the week in the Liga Mayor.

In the first three weeks of the season, the Caciques de Districto players had been the Liga Mayor’s MVP of the week. This week that dominance came to an end, thanks to the bat of Yoelkis Guibert, who was named the Week 4 MVP. Guibert was a real thorn in the side of opposing pitchers, producing 14 hits, including two doubles, a triple, and a trio of home runs. In addition, he also scored 11 runs, drove in nine, and his batting average ended at .500.

With this high level of production, the Cuban, who plays with the Senadores de Caracas received six first-place votes, beating out  his countrymen Geisel Cepeda of Caciques de Distrito with his three votes. Third place went to Senators de Caracas closer Mayckol Guaipe with two. Beyond his dominance at the plate, Guibert was instrumental in the Senadores recent dominance, so much so that he has them currently sitting in second place in the standings with a 15-10 record and winning six of their last ten games.

Thus, after the first four weeks of the tournament have seen Diego Infante (Caciques), Seulys Matías (Caciques), Carlos Franco (Caciques), and Yoelkis Guibert (Senadores) named the Most Valuable Players. The talented outfielder was supposed to play in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, but problems with his visa put an end to his possible inclusion in the Mexican tournament this season.

Guibert is coming off a Liga Elite with his native Santiago de Cuba in which led the league in batting average (.426), was second in homeruns (13) and was fourth in runs batted in (33). Last season in the LMBP with the same Senadores de Caracas the Cuban slugger slashed .471/.542/.686/1.228 with two longballs and 12 RBIs in 70 at-bats.
