Raidel Martínez earned his 23rd save of the season after striking out all 3 batters he faced in a perfect inning of relief in the Yomiuri Giants’ 2-1 win over the Seibu Lions. The Cuban right-hander still holds a 0.00 earned run average after 28 straight scoreless outings and is second in saves in the Central League.
Liván Moinelo had another a no-decision after allowing just one run and eight hits in six innings of work in the SoftBank Hawks’ 2-1, 10-inning win over the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya. The left-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba struck out six batters and didn’t issue a walk also sports a 6-0 record and 1.28 ERA on the campaign.
Moinelo and Martínez, who are coincidentally geographically from the same area in Cuba will lead Cuba’s pitching corps in the upcoming World Baseball Classic and could be instrumental for the country in any victory it could obtain.
