After Aroldis Chapman Chapman was selected for the All-Star Game earlier this week, three more Cubans were added as replacement. Carlos Rodón, Randy Arozarena and Adrian Morejón were all added as replacement. Chapman,who has saved 16 games on the season will make his eighth All-Star appearances which tops amongst Cubans All-time.
Arozarena who replaces teammate Julio Rodríguez and makes his second appearance in the midsummer class has been very hot this month hitting a solid .286 with nine longballs and 20 runs batted in. For the season the Cuban slugger slashes .249/.356/.452/.808 with 16 homers and 46 RBIs. The native of Pinar del Río, Cuba is in route to his fifth straight 20-20 season.
In Morejón’s case he replaced Zack Wheeler. The left-hander sport a 7-3 record, 1.67 ERA, two save and 12 holds in 46 appearances on the campaign. In 43 innings the hurler has also fanned 41 batters and sports a 0.81 WHIP. For Morejón it will be his first selection to the All-Star Game.
Rodón by his own right will replace his teammate Max Fried and will make his third appearance in the game with his third different team. On the season the flamethrowing southpaw a 10-6 mark, 3.08 earned run average and 135 strikeouts in 199⅔ innings pitched. The Cuban-American also leads the league in starts with 20.
