Rodón and Chapman shine in the All-Star Game, but the AL falls in extra-innings.

Carlos Rodón tossed a scoreless inning in his third All-Star Game appearance in he allowed a hit and struck out a batter during the American League’s 7-6 loss to the National League in extra-innings. The Cuban-American lefty now sports a 0.00 earned run average in the midsummer classic.

Aroldis Chapman also saw action on the night and retired all three batters he faced on the evening, one of the via the strikeout for the American League. For the flamethrowing southpaw it was his eighth All-Star appearance and in six innings pitched in the game has yet to allow a run. Over that span the hurler has not allowed a hit, struck out nine and a saved a game.

The National League won the game in extra-innings when Kyle Schwarber won a homerun swing-off with Jonathan Aranda 3-2 to secure the senior circuit’s victory. The American League holds a 48-45 advantage in the game and their have also ben two ties (1962,2002). The game was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next year the contest will be held in Philadelphia’s Citizen Bank Park, with the Phillies playing host to the game. This will be the fourth time the city hosts All-Star festivities. This will be the first time the team will host the game since moving to the stadium in 2004, Shibe Park hosted the game in 1952, while Veterans Stadium held the contest in 1976 and 1996.
