Right in the middle of the season, the Dominican Summer League (DSL) will hold its All-Star Game this Sunday, July 20 at the Arizona Complex, and four Cuban players have been selected to represent their respective leagues.
Their will be two Cubans representing the American League they will be:
•Kevin Álvarez (Astros), Matanzas outfielder and the club’s main signing for the 2024-2025 season. He’s hitting .337 (33-for-95) in 29 games, with 2 HR, 27 RBI, and 17 RBI. Álvarez signed for a two million dollar bonus during the international signing period this January.
•Yobal Rodríguez (White Sox), pitcher from Ciego de Ávila, with 18.2 scoreless innings, 17 strikeouts, only 4 hits allowed, a 0.38 WHIP, and a fastball that reaches 98 mph. Total dominance. Rodríguez was signed for an undisputed amount earlier this year.
For the National League:
•Adolfo Miranda (Mets), with 5 HR (top 11), 21 RBI, 10 steals, and a .333 batting average. His second season in the DSL. Miranda was the bargain signing of the bunch inking for a a measly 10 K this January.
•Diego Tornés (Braves), Atlanta’s top signing in 2025 ($2.5 million). He’s hitting .288 with 5 doubles, 5 triples (4th in DSL), 22 steals (4th), 19 R, and 13 RBI in 30 games. The switch-hitter was rated #5 in the international prospect pool.
