Yordan Álvarez swatted three hits in five at-bats including a solo-shot in the fifth and a run-scoring single in the eighth inning to pace the Houston Astros in their 11-0 blanking of the Texas Rangers. Álvarez has now homered six times on the season and is now hitting .459 since his return from injury.
Sal Stewart Jr went yard for the first in his MLB career, a two-run second inning shot off Jonah Tong during Cincinnati’s 6-3 win over the Mets. The Cuban-American slugger also drove in his first two runs in the majors and now hits .250 on the campaign.
Yandy Díaz collected a hit in four trips to the plate and knocked in a run a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning during Tampa’s 3-2 loss to Cleveland. The native of Sagua la Grande, Cuba has now driven in 77 runs on the season placing him third amongst Cubans in MLB in that statistical category.
Yoán Moncada laced a run-scoring triple in three at-bats to be the only shining light in the Angels 17-4 loss to the Athletics. The infielder hits .235 and has now driven 31 runs on the year. Moncada has shown flashes of his immense talent in an injury plagued season.
