Raisel Iglesias re-signs with Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves once again looked to Raisel Iglesias when it came time to securing the ninth inning. The organization announced the signing of the closer from Isle of Youth to a one-year, $16 million contract for the 2026 season, a decision that confirms what no one in Atlanta hides: there is no plan B when it comes to closing games. Iglesias, 35, is coming off a solid campaign in his third full season with Atlanta.

The right-hander pitched in 70 games, posting a 3.21 ERA and converting 29 of 34 save opportunities, finishing fourth in the National League and ninth in all of baseball. But beyond the overall numbers, what convinced the Braves was how he finished: 18 consecutive saves since July 28, the longest streak in MLB at the end of the year. In his last 45 games he worked to a 1.25 ERA in 43.1 innings, with an fWAR of 1.5, the second best among relievers in the league.

The Cuban also reached a historic milestone last season: his 250th save, achieved on September 16 against Washington. Only 40 pitchers in history have reached that number, and just five active relievers have accomplished it. Iglesias represents not only consistency but also immaculate talent. Since debuting with Atlanta on August 5, 2022, the right-hander has been one of the toughest hurlers to face for hitters in the National League.

His 2.35 ERA in 222 appearances is the lowest among relievers in the league with that volume of work. His 253 career saves rank fifth among active closers, behind heavyweights like Kenley Jansen (476), Craig Kimbrel (440), Aroldis Chapman (367), and Edwin Díaz (253). With 11 seasons in the major leagues, Iglesias boasts a track record that speaks for itself: a 42-55 record, a 2.90 ERA, and a total of 600 games pitched between Cincinnati, the Angels, and Atlanta. More than just numbers, the Braves are buying stability, experience, and an arm that rarely falters in the game’s most crucial inning.
