Leonys Martín wins the Liga ARCO League Player of the Week award for the second time this season.

This Sunday, the first half of the 2025-2026 ARCO Mexican Pacific League season concluded with the Yaquis of Ciudad Obregón in first place. The weekly awards were also presented, and Cuban Leonys Martín took home the Player of the Week award for the second time this season.

Martín, a newcomer to the Mexican winter league this season, with the Cañeros of Los Mochis against the Naranjeros of Hermosillo and the also-debuting Jaguares of Nayarit, the outfielder dominated the week with three home runs and 11 RBIs. Over the last seven days, he compiled a .320 batting average, with eight hits in 25 at-bats, including a double  solidifying his position as the league leader with eight. Martín thus remains the only Cuban to win this award this season.

The 37-year-old outfielder has been having a great season in the Aztec circuit, one of the strongest leagues in the Caribbean winter. Martín already has experience in Major League Baseball, the NPB (Japan), the LIDOM (Dominican Republic), and the LVBP (Venezuela). So far, in 24 games played, he has a .267 batting average with 23 hits, 67% of which have been extra-base hits (six doubles and eight home runs).

He also has 22 runs scored and 20 RBIs. In addition to leading the league in home runs, he also leads in dead ball with six, slugging percentage at .616, and OPS at 1.010 (the only player above 1.000). He is tied for sixth place in runs scored with two other players and is eleventh in RBIs. Without a doubt, Martín was key to the Cañeros finishing in second place in the first half of the league’s season, only behind the Yaquis; and he will also be key to the club’s aspirations to win the championship again after the title they won in 2022-2023.
