Yasiel Puig swatted a homerun in his only official turn at the plate. The Cuban outfielder also scored a run to do his part in Magallanes’ 17-6 thrashing of the Tiburones de La Guaira. Puig saw his average rise to .263 on the season and the Navegantes are holding on to the last playoff spot with one game left in the regular season of the LVBP.
Also in Venezuela Yadiel Hernández laced a run-scoring two-run single, amongst his two hits on the evening in the second inning of the Tigres de Aragua’s 9-2 win over Águilas de Zulia. The outfielder has now driven five runs in his short time with the club and saw his average rise to .313 on the campaign.
In the LBPRC Yohandy Morales collected three hits in four trips to the plate, including a third inning run-scoring triple to lead Santurce in their 6-0 shutout of the Criollos de Caguas. The Washington Nationals is hitting a robust .414 in his short time in the Puerto Rican league.
JP Martínez homered for the 12th time on the campaign, a solo-shot in the seventh inning of the Tomateros de Culiacán’s 4-1 victory over the Águilas de Mexicali. The slugger hits .261 on the season and is now second in the Mexican circuit in that statistical category.
Also in the Liga ARCO Odrisamer Despaigne tossed seven innings of six-hit, two-run ball during Ciudad Obregón’s 7-3 triumph over the Venados de Mazatlán. For the right-hander it was his seventh win in the LAMP and his ERA also fell to 2.95 on the campaign.
