Pitcher Javier Mirabal, will once again wear a uniform in the Serie Nacional, this time that of the Cocodrilos de Matanzas of the Cuban circuit. Mirabal previously played for Matanzas during the 59th National Series, when he reinforced the team, leaving a positive impression from the mound. Mirabal had formerly seen action in the Cuban tournament with the Azucareros de Villa Clara.
His addition comes at a crucial time, just in time for the final games of the qualifying round and the demanding postseason, where pitching depth can make all the difference. The right-hander also played in earlier this year in the Meridana Winter League (Yucatán) with the Venados de La Marista. He is undoubtedly an experienced arm that will help the team continue its fight for the championship in the Cuban circuit.
Mirabal signed with the Bravos de León of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol in 2024 sporting a 6.28 earned run average in 11 games. Armed with a fastball that can touch the mid-90’s and a good array of breaking pitches The hurler peaked the interest of some teams, mainly Asian ones during his inclusion with the 2023 Cuban World Baseball Classic squad during their preparation games in Japan and Chinese Taipei.
Upon deciding to leave the island after that tournament he also pitched with the Águilas of Mexicali of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico. Mirabal is possibly looking to showcase himself for a summer job with a Liga Mexicana de Béisbol or possibly an inclusion on the 2026 WBC roster. Mirabal might be a wildcard in the future for Cuba or Matanzas.
