Odrisamer Despaigne made his debut with the Águilas Cibaeñas in a victorious fashion tossing 5⅔ innings in which he gave up four hits, two earned runs and struck out three during the team’s 9-3 win over the Gigantes del Cibao. The Águilas tied the Toros del Este for second in the Dominican Round Robin.
Andrew Pérez also got in on the action striking out one of the two batters he faced on the evening. The Cuban-American lefty has been a key member of the Águilas’ bullpen by not allowing a run yet during his 2⅔ innings of work during the LIDOM’s postseason.
In the Liga ARCO Orlando Martínez collected a hit in three trips to the plate and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, while also scoring a run during a Culiacán 6-0 blanking of the Algodoneros de Guasave in the opening game of their semifinal series. The outfielder is hitting .250 in the Liga ARCO playoffs.
Yusniel Díaz swatted two hits in three at-bats, including a homerun in the fourth inning of the Gigantes de Rivas 7-6 win during the opening game of the Nicaraguan Winter League final. The slugger who was returning from an injury is now hitting .333 on the campaign.
Lázaro Alonso also aided the cause with a two-run homerun of his own in the sixth inning of the Gigantes victory. The four-time league champion now leads their playoff series 1-0 and Alonso is also hitting .333 om the season for the Nicaraguan squad.
