Various Cubans have secured their places in the upcoming season of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol via various routes. For example Norge Ruiz and Raico Santos have signed deals with the Guerreros de Oaxaca and Tigres de Quintana Roo, while Yasiel Puig is expected to be traded to the Conspiradores de Querétaro respectively later this month.
Sources have confirmed to the Cuban Baseball Digest that outfielder Yasiel Puig will be traded to the Conspiradores de Querétaro by El Águila de Veracruz, who hold his rights in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol for the upcoming season. Puig played last season in the KBO with the Kiwoom Heroes. In his last season in the LMB, which was 2024 with Veracruz he slashed .314/.410/.610/1.020 with 18 homeruns and 43 runs batted in over a 64 game span.
In Ruiz’s case he comes from pitching with the Leones del Escogido in the LIDOM posting a record of 0-2 and 3.38 earned run average with the team in 8 starts and 26.2 IP. The right-hander saw action in the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics in 2022 where he had an 0-1 record and 7.11 ERA in 14 outings, all in relief with the ballclub. Ruiz figures to be in Oaxaca’s starting rotation for the upcoming season.
Santos on the other hand joins the thr Tigres de Quintana Roo for the upcoming LMB season. The Granma native has two previous seasons of experience in the league, playing for the Olmecas de Tabasco and the Tigers. In 2022, he hit .312 with a .371/.411/.782 slash line in 62 games with Tabasco. The season in the Asociación de Béisbol Profesional Nicaragüense the outfielder hit .342 in 30 games with El Tren del Norte.
