Plenty of Cubans have seen action with the Atlanta Braves. Names such Raisel Iglesias, Yunel Escobar, Jorge Soler, Adonis García and Adolfo Luque have had their impact on the franchise’s history. Escobar and García are the Cubans with the most home runs in the organization (29). While Escobar also leads the Georgian franchise in hits (472), doubles (87), stolen bases (17), walks (180), and RBIs (183).
Dolf Luque was the first Cuban to win the World Series with the Braves (1914). In 2021, Jorge Soler and Guillermo Heredia also achieved this feat. Soler was World Series MVP that season. Raisel Iglesias leads virtually every pitching category among Cubans who have played in Atlanta: SO (239), W (15), ERA (2.35), G (222), IP (218.2), and SV (97).
Héctor Olivera was traded to the team in via the Dodgers in 2016 with lofty expectations, but he never panned out and was eventually DFA’d. Adeiny Hechavarría and Liván Hernández came to the club in the twilight of their careers.On today’s roster Raisel Iglesias and Daysbel Hernández still remain. Hernández posted a 3.40 earned run average last campaign.
