After spending the last two seasons in the land of the rising with the Chiba Lotte Marines and then being released in the offseason by the Japanese team, Andy Martín has a new home. The outfielder has inked a deal with the Caliente de Durango in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol for the upcoming season.
Martín made his debut in Japan in 2024, appearing in 33 games for Chiba Lotte’s farm team. He hit .278 (22-for-79) with seven doubles, one home run, and eight RBIs. He also showcased his speed, successfully stealing three bases in as many attempts.
He second season did not go as well with the Marines. Over his two seasons in the land of the rising sun he slashed .241/.285/.380/.685 with two homeruns, 18 runs batted in and five stolen bases. Based on his experience in the NPB expect Martín to excel in the LMB.
In addition to his time with the Marines, Martín played in Japan’s independent Baseball Challenge League (BCL) with the Ibaraki Astro Planets. He hit .216 with three home runs and nine RBIs, including a grand slam. The younger brother of former NPB All-Star Leonys Martín is represented by A&F Sports Agency.
