Cuba’s final roster is set for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. There will be some old faces such as Alexei Ramírez, Alfredo Despaigne, Yoan Moncada, Liván Moinelo, Raidel Martínez, Yoelkis Guibert and Ariel Martínez returing to name a few.
But there will also be some young and fresh faces such as Osiel Rodríguez, Emmanuel Chapman, Josimar Cousin, Malcom Núñez, Yiddi Cappé and Alexander Vargas looking to make an impact in their first tournament with the Cuban squad.
Below we are giving the fans a layman’s rundown of all the team’s position players. Get to know a little more about the position of Team Cuba’s players for the 6th World Baseball Classic:
OF Roel Santos (38 years old, Granma): Highest level: NPB with Chiba Lotte (2017)
He also has professional experience in leagues in Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. Last professional team: Bravos de Margarita (LVBP )
IF Alexei Ramírez (44 years old, Pinar del Río): Highest level: MLB with the White Sox (2008–15), Padres (2016), and Tampa Bay (2016). He also has professional experience in the Mexican Baseball League. Last team: Pinar del Río (Cuban National Series )
C Omar Hernández (24 years old, Havana):
Highest level: Double-A with Northwest Arkansas (2025). Organization: Kansas City Royals. Last professional team: Northwest Arkansas (MiLB). Invited to Spring Training.
OF Yoelkis Guibert (31 years old, Santiago de Cuba): Highest level: ARCO League with Tomateros de Culiacán (2020–21 and 2021–22) and Algodoneros de Guasave (2023–24). He also has experience in the Venezuelan Major League, Nicaragua, and with Québec in Canada. Last professional team: Indios del Boer (Nicaraguan Professional League ).
