The 2026 season of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) is set to begin in mid-April, and teams are already gathering for spring training, outfielder Yadiel Hernández will be playing his third consecutive season with the Tecos de Dos Laredos.
“I feel very happy with the team—to see everyone again—and I’m approaching this with a positive mindset; personally, I just aim to do what I always do,” the Matanzas native said regarding his arrival at the Binational squad’s spring training camp.
In the previous campaign, the Tecolotes suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of the Sultanes de Monterrey in the LMB playoff quarterfinals; now, the Cuban returns fully determined to win the title: “Collectively, we still have that burning desire to win, and that is our mentality this year: to try and win the championship”, said Hernández about one of his goals for the upcoming season.
Hernández enjoyed a stellar 2025 season with the team, racking up a total of 114 hits, including 26 home runs and 18 doubles, along with 96 RBIs, 75 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases; he was also named to the All-Star Game.
“Regarding the numbers, I focused day by day on continuing to improve and trying to ensure that any of my offensive slumps affected the team as little as possible,” he said of his outstanding 2025 season. This season, the Cuban slugger will share the roster with pitcher Roenis Elías.
Speaking of the Guantánamo native, he said: “I played alongside him with the Washington Nationals, and we’ve always stayed in touch. I’m very happy to have him here; I know he can be a huge help to us, as we were missing a left-handed starter last year.”
Undoubtedly, Hernández will once again be a pivotal figure in the Tecolotes’ lineup in the LMB. Together with his teammates, he will strive to help the club capture another title in the Mexican summer league—a championship they haven’t won since 1989.
