A Cuban duo take Player of the Week honors in the AL and NL.

Yordan Álvarez has been named Player of the Week in the American League for the second week of the current season. The Astros slugger took home the honors following a phenomenal start that included a slash line of .471/.615/1.118/1.733, with three home runs, eight RBIs, and seven runs scored in 26 plate appearances. Álvarez also drew seven walks from opposing pitchers while striking out just three times.

During the evaluation period (March 30 to April 5), Yordan led all of Major League Baseball in fWAR (0.8), isolated power (.647), on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+, and wRC+ (338). Furthermore, he also led the American League in batting average and home runs and 66.7% of his batted balls had an exit velocity exceeding 95 mph—a category in which he also topped the entire league.

For Álvarez—a left-handed hitter born in the eastern province of Las Tunas—this marks his fourth such award. He and Alex Bregman were the last Astros players to win the honor, having been named co-Players of the Week (AL) for the period of August 5–11, 2024. Álvarez has also won the American League Player of the Month award twice (June 2022 and September 2023).

Andy Pagés continues to validate the excellent form he is currently displaying in Major League Baseball after being named National League Player of the Week. The Pinar del Río native delivered a high-caliber offensive performance over the past seven days, outshining the rest of the circuit’s hitters and making it clear that he has kicked off the 2026 season in peak condition.

During that stretch, Pagés collected 14 hits in 20 official at-bats—including two home runs and two doubles—while also driving in seven runs and scoring five. His production has been among the most consistent of the young season, reinforcing the notion that he is now fully established in the world’s premier baseball league, all while maintaining a highly positive trend whenever the month of April arrives.

The Cuban outfielder thus earned the second weekly honor of his MLB career, having previously claimed the distinction in April 2025. So far this season, he is batting .471 with three home runs, 10 RBIs, and an OPS of 1.294—numbers that place him among the most productive Cuban players in the game today. Moreover, projections from FanGraphs point to another solid campaign for Pagés, with figures that would cement his status as a key contributor for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
