Lázaro Alonso (Senadores de Caracas) and Camagüey, Cuba native José Ramón Rodríguez (Centauros de La Guaira) delivered the most outstanding performances among the six Cuban players who saw action this Saturday, May 2, in the Major Professional Baseball League (LMBP).

This competition stands as the most significant baseball league in Venezuela at this time of year. Alonso went 3-for-4, recording three runs scored, a double, a walk, and a strikeout in his team’s 12–5 victory over the Líderes de Miranda. With this performance, he raised his batting average to .429 (18-for-42) through 12 games played, tallying 10 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, and a 1.198 OPS.

Amongst Cuban pitchers, no one shone brighter on Saturday’s slate than José Ramón. Although the hurler left with a no-decision against the Delfines de La Guaira, following six innings of work in which he allowed only three hits and no runs, while recording three strikeouts and one walk.

He also threw 81 pitches to the plate—49 of which landed in the strike zone (60.5%)—while maintaining his ERA at 0.00. The only other Cuban pitcher active on the day was Armando Dueñas (Samanes de Aragua) from Matanzas, who tossed a scoreless inning without allowing a baserunner against the Marineros de Carabobo.
