Geisel Cepeda hit his second home run of the season this Friday in Venezuela’s Major Professional Baseball League while playing for the Caciques de Distrito during his team’s 16–6 victory over the Senadores de Caracas, he hit fifth (playing center field) and went 4-for-4, also swatting a double, with four RBIs, scoring three times and also drawing a walk.
This marked his fifth career home run in the Major League Regular Season; last year, he hit three in 42 games. He holds a lifetime batting average of .418 (189 AB; 79 H) in the Venezuelan summertournament. Last year, he set a Regular Season record with the Caciques by tallying 69 hits.
The ex-Rangers’ prospect played this winter with the Tigers de Chinandega of the APBN hitting .302 in the 13 games the Nicaraguan ballclub. Expect Cepeda to be a big part of the Caciques offense this season and possibly lead the team in a couple of statistical categories.
