The San Antonio de los Baños native pitched five hitless innings, issued two walks, and struck out eight batters. He threw 71 pitches (48 strikes). He has yet to allow a run or a hit across 6.1 innings this season, while accumulating nine strikeouts.
This contest was decided by an infield hit from another Cuban player: Raico Santos, a native of Granma who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Santos is now hitting .182 on the young campaign.
