Cuban-American slugger Yohandy Morales is on the verge of being called up to the big leagues. This Friday, he went 3-for-5 with a double, two homeruns, three runs scored, three RBIs, a walk, and a strikeout during his team’s 9-8 victory. His club, the Rochester Red Wings (Nationals affiliate), defeated the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2023 draft has gradually developed into an imposing hitter in the minors. After not hitting a longball in his first minor league season he has increased his homerun totals every year and is developing into an all-around hitter across the board.
This winter he honed his skills in Puerto Rico with the Cangrejeros de Santurce, hitting .395 in 10 games with the ballclub and was also an absolute terror at the plate with the team in the Serie del Caribe. During the tournament he hit .500 with two homeruns and six rubs batted in.
Yohandy, the son of Cuban League legend Andy Morales, is now hitting .352 (64-for-182) with 11 doubles, 12 homeruns, 22 walks, and 33 RBIs. The team’s 28th ranked prospect owns a stellar 1.038 OPS as he awaits a call-up to the Major Leagues, which could possibly be coming in the not so distant future.
