Yordan Álvarez once again on the campaign was named Player of the Week in the American League, the Cuban slugger continues to build an MVP-caliber season and has once again been recognized by MLB. The native of Las Tunas, Cuba hit .476 (10-for-21) during the week, blasted 2 home runs and drove in 9 runs and finished with a 1.386 OPS
This is the fifth Player of the Week award of his career and the second one he has won during the 2026 season. Álvarez also leads all of MLB in OPS (1.080), slugging percentage (.650), and total bases (154), while leading the American League in home runs (22) and RBIs (48).
Álvarez’s stats have also been very soft on the eyes from the analytical side by sporting a BABIP of .315, a wOBA of .453 and a wRC+ of 193. The Cuban giant’s ISO is a robust .333, placing him third in all of Major League Baseball in that statistical category.
In a season where plenty of Cuban are thundering, Álvarez’s bat seems to be making the most noise and if he remains healthy this could be a career year for the power-hitter. With the MVP race still ongoing, the Cuban star continues to make it clear that he is one of the leading favorites.
