Sal Stewart homered for the 13th time on the season, a two-run bomb in four trips to the dish during Cincinnati’s 5-3 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds. Stewart leads all rookies in the National League in runs batted in with 42 and is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year.
Andy Pagés swatted his 15th homerun of the season, a three-run shot which was his only hit in five at-bats during the Dodgers 12-3 win over Pittsburgh Pirates. The outfielder upped his league leading RBI total to 56 and saw his average fall to .282 on the season.
Nick Martínez tossed seven innings of six-hit, three-run ball and struck out two batters to notch his six victory of the campaign during the Rays’ 4-3 downing of the Red Sox. The Cuban-American righty saw his earned run average ascend to 2.43 on the year and is established himself as the team’s ace.
