Yordan Álvarez celebrated his selection as a starting outfielder for the All-Star Game in grand fashion, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and six RBIs to lead the Houston Astros to a 10-8 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Independence Day. The Cuban slugger’s second homer came in the bottom of the ninth inning, a walk-off blast that sent the Astros to victory.
Álvarez, who also homered in Friday’s series opener, now leads the American League with 29 home runs. He also paces all of Major League Baseball in RBIs (67), while his .433 on-base percentage, .645 slugging percentage, and 1.078 OPS are all the best marks in the majors. In addition, Álvarez leads the American League in hits (104) and runs scored (62).
Randy Arozarena swatted his ninth homerun of the season, a second inning grand slam to be the catalyst in the Seattle Mariners ‘ 11-0 blanking of the Toronto Bluejays. The outfielder, who is having the most complete season of any Cuban this in MLB saw his average to .287 near the midway point of the campaign.
