Yordan Álvarez Earns His Third Player of the Week Award of 2026.

Yordan Álvarez has once again been named the American League Player of the Week, MLB announced in a press release on Monday. Over the span from June 29 through July 5, the Cuban designated hitter slashed an outstanding .435/.462/.957/1.418, while blasting four home runs and driving in 11 RBIs.

His batting average, home run total, RBIs, and 10 hits all led the American League during the week. He also ranked second in slugging percentage, OPS, and weighted runs created plus (wRC+: 280), trailing only Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene in each category.

The honor marks the sixth Player of the Week Award of Álvarez’s career and his third of the 2026 season. He previously won the award for the periods of March 30–April 5 and June 1–7. Over the course of his Major League career, Álvarez has also earned three Player of the Month Awards, most recently for March/April of this season.

Overall, Álvarez has put together a remarkable first half offensively, firmly establishing himself as the leading candidate for the American League Most Valuable Player Award.

Entering Monday night’s game in Washington, Álvarez leads all of Major League Baseball in OPS (1.065), total bases (207), slugging percentage (.637), and on-base percentage (.429). He also sits just one point behind fellow Cuban Yandy Díaz in the batting race, while leading the majors with 29 home runs and 67 RBIs, making him a legitimate threat to capture the American League Triple Crown.
