According to a report from Francys Romero outfielder Lázaro Montes has been called up to the majors. The Havana native leads all Cuban players in minors with 38 home runs this year. In 123 Minor League games, he posted a .927 OPS with 63 extra-base hits — a career high — along with 99 runs scored, 96 RBI and 79 walks.
Once he makes his debut, Montes will become the 30th Cuban-born player to appear in MLB during the 2026 season. He will also become the ninth Cuban to play for the Seattle Mariners, following Yuniesky Betancourt, Kendrys Morales, Leonys Martin, Ariel Miranda, Yonder Alonso, Guillermo Heredia, Roenis Elías and Randy Arozarena.
Montes will turn 22 years old on October 22. During his Minor League career, he has hit 114 home runs, driven in 392 runs and posted a .915 OPS. The Cuban, who is the #1 prospect in our sister page Pelota Cubana USA’s prospect list is headed to The Show.
