The Washington Nationals have called up Yohandy Morales to the Major Leagues, the son of former Cuban ballplayer Andy Morales. The 24-year-old has earned his first opportunity in MLB after an outstanding season with Triple-A Rochester.
Morales hit .286 with 25 home runs, 19 doubles, 76 RBIs and 82 runs scored in 104 games. He also posted a .363 on-base percentage, .519 slugging percentage and an .882 OPS. In 349 Minor League games, he has a .285 batting average, 47 home runs, 220 RBIs and an .824 OPS.
Yohandy’s father was a legend in Cuba and homered against the Baltimore Orioles in an exhibition game against the Cuban National Team in Camden Yard on May 3, 1999 leading Cuba to a 12-6 win. The Morales name will now begin a new chapter in the Major Leagues after being legendary name in the Serie Nacional.
