Cuban-German Joshua Azcuy of the Dade Christian Warriors was named to the All-Dade team following a standout season. The young player is the son of Maikel Azcuy—a member of the British Baseball Hall of Fame—and the grandson of former Serie Nacional and Pinar del Río pitcher Fidel Azcuy.
In 2026 the young slugger slashed .368/.506/.559/1.056 with two homeruns and 11 runs batted in 68 at-bats with the South Florida high school. Plenty of schools have shown interest in Azcuy, including the Washington State University Cougars. Sources tell me that the workout went well and the coaches were impressed with his talents.
Azcuy is represented by Gladys Alonso of A&F Sports, who is well known Cuban-American agent that is based in South Florida has plenty of experience in the field. With the talent he possesses and the team he has behind him I see Joshua Azcuy going far in his baseball career.
Talk to us about your recent visit to Washington State University.
It was a good experience. I came from Germany, where my dad prepared me really well. When I arrived, I was a little nervous at first because some people couldn’t make it there to help me. But once I got there, everyone was really helpful. They told me what to do. The showcase, or tryout specifically, went really well. We threw to the bases, ran the 60-yard dash, and hit. I would say I performed well in all three or four categories, and they were pretty happy with me.
Are you going to visit any other colleges?
That’s the plan. Of course, I’m open to any other college that wants to try me out or invite me to their complex. As long as they give me an opportunity, I’m always open to it.
Your grandfather was a player in the Serie Nacional, and your dad is a legend in Great Britain baseball. How have they influenced your career?
They’ve influenced my career by helping me make a lot of connections. My grandfather’s name helped my dad and me find my agent, Gladys Alonso. With her help, I’m where I am right now and very close to finding a college.
Is there any pressure to perform because they were such highly regarded players?
I wouldn’t say there’s too much pressure. At first, when I got here, all I was thinking about was that I had to perform well. I had to look good not only for myself and my dad’s name, but also for my country because there aren’t too many European players here. I felt like I had to set an example for them.
Is playing in Europe in the plans for you in the future?
Maybe when I retire. Right now, I’m focusing on either college or Asia, whichever one gives me an opportunity.
Do you have any other goals for the future besides that?
Going back to my country, either Germany or France, and just living my life.
