Two more Cubans that debuted in the majors this season have inked deals with winter league ballclubs. Yohandy Morales (Nationals) has signed with the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente, while Yunior Tur (Athletics) came to an agreement to the Gigantes del Cibao of the LIDOM.
Morales returns to Santurce to bolster the team’s offense in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League. The Cuban-American slugger was a key hitter for Santurce in the last Serie del Caribe. The power-hitting infielder batted .255 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 47 at-bats during his MLB debut season with Washington.
Tur joins the San Francisco de Macorís club to bolster its pitching staff in LIDOM. Last season, the Cuban hurler appeared in eight games with the Athletics, striking out 14 batters over 12⅔ innings. His repertoire primarily consists of a cutter, splitter, sweeper and four-seam fastball. His splitter generated a 41.7% whiff rate.
