Latino baseball players have always been the priority of Leona Sports. The Sports Agency has made it clear that this segment of the baseball market needs more representation and help, and that is why it has just held a meeting with a very important interlocutor. Directors of Leona Sports and Cuban baseball player Henry Urrutia, who is a client of the entity, held a meeting with Tony Clark, executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association who was very receptive to the situation of Latino players and trying to help them adapt themselves to the challenges of MLB and MiLB.
“We are very happy that Mr. Tony Clark is so receptive and willing to help the Latino player through the Players Union,” said Lisette Carnet, president of Leona Aports and certified agent for Major League Baseball. “We were invited to collaborate with our ideas from the Coalition of Latino Players, and we are excited to know that one of Mr. Clark’s priorities is helping Latino baseball players.”
In addition to Carnet and Urrutia, Carlos Pérez (International Agent and expert on the Cuban player) and Alexia Torres (Leona Sports Legal Department) were present at the meeting and offered their experience on the unique needs of the Latino baseball player.

Urrutia, currently a player in the Mexican baseball league, provided a first-hand account of his experience as a professional baseball player, through the eyes of a prospect, a Major League player and an international professional player. Leona Sports hopes to make its way in the difficult market for baseball players in the Major Leagues, but is confident that the combined experience of Carnet and Pérez will make a difference and earn the confidence of those players born in Latin America.
“Through different programs and support, the goal of he and the MLBPA is to better equip Latino players in their assimilation and transition throughout their baseball careers and beyond,” Carnet added. In a meeting that was characterized as very productive by Leona Sports, the agency is laying down the building blocks for a better future for the Latino baseball player in the MLB/MiLB system.
The agency who represents plenty of Latin Americans in the baseball market is looking to become trendsetter and pioneer in order to make thing better for a population of people who generate a lot of stars in our game, but in certain instances do not have the best representation or mentorship. By establishing themselves as the voice for Latin players in the game Leona Sports is banking that this will effectuate a positive change for the better of all players Latin America in our national pastime.
