Andy Ibáñez is called up to the majors.

Andy Ibáñez woke up this Saturday with very good news after a excellent start at Triple A Detroit (Toledo Mud Hens). The Detoit Tigers (9-15) made a series of roster changes this morning, placing outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the IL with a right shoulder strain and selecting the contract for infielder Andy Ibanez.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Ibanez, right-hander Matt Manning was placed on the 60-day disabled list, Ibanez’s contract signed a minor league contract to start the season and was not on the included on the 40-man roster.

The infielder has had an excellent start to the campaign slashing .297/.418/.609/1.027, with five doubles, the same number of home runs, 13 walks, two stolen bases and 16 RBIs. Ibáñez played 116 games in the big leagues with the Texas Rangers between 2021 and 2022, hitting .258 with 19 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 34 runs batted in.

The native of the Isle of Youth will have to make the most of every opportunity he gets with Detroit at the “Big Show” if he wants to finish the year as a major leaguer. Last March he was one of the six major league players who participated with Cuba in the V World Classic, although due to an injury he could only play the semifinal match against the United States.
