Adolis García: “I am focused on having a 30-30 season. “

Adolis García was selected as the AL of the Week from April 17 to 23 in the part thanks to his spectacular performance in the series against Kansas City and Oakland. García played in five games during the time span in which he hit .400 with two doubles, four home runs and 14 RBIs. It was his second time winning weekly award in MLB, after also receiving the same prize on the week of April 25, 2021.

His slash line of .458/1.100/1.158 was also very formidable during that week. On the night of April 22 when he faced Oakland was an unforgettable evening for him, during that contest he was perfect at the plate going 5-for-5, it was also the first three homer and two double game of his career. The slugger had eight RBIs and five runs scored on the night to make it his best game as a professional.

The native of Ciego de Avila, Cuba became only the fourth player in the modern era (since 1900) with at least three home runs and two doubles in a contest; the previous ones were Kris Bryant (2016), Matt Carpenter (2018) and Alex Dickerson (2020).

He also became the first Cuban-born player with five XBHs in one game. In Rangers history, only three players (two of them Cuban) have had 5 or more hits, 3 or + HR’s and 8 or + RBI’s in a game: Adolis García (2023), Josh Hamilton (2012 ) and José Canseco (1994) are these men. Of the three, the only one of these three to have scored five times in a game is García.

Garcia who is the current leader in RBIs in the MLB (30) offered these statements to MLB Network: “Every year I’m focused on having a 30-30 season, last year I was close, but this year I am focused as ever to try an achieve this goal”. It is a tough goal that Adolis set for himself in 2023, he currently has seven homers, but only one stolen base.
