Frank Abel Álvarez continues to shine as a starter. Taking the hill for the second time on the season the right-hander from Pinar del Río, Cuba was one again brilliant. Tossed five innings where he gave up three hits, two earned runs and fanned four in Chunichi’s 5-3 victory over the Hiroshima Carp in a minor league game. In his two starts Álvarez sports a shiny 1.80 earned run average.
In NPB big leagues Raidel Martínez allowed two hits but no runs in an episode of relief in the tie at one run in 12 innings between the Chunichi Dragons and the Chiba Lotte Marines. His ERA remains at 0.00. His countrymen and teammate Dayán Viciedo went 0-for-3, with one strikeout and two walks, to lower his average to .218.
Liván Moinelo notched his fourth save of the year after giving up a hit, no runs and a strikeout an inning of relief. His ERA dipped to 0.76 on the season. The Yakult Swallows downed the SoftBank Hawks 9-7 pin10-innings win at Tokyo’s Meiji Jingu Stadium.
In Korea, Guillermo Heredia collected two hits in four trips to the plate and knocked in a run, but his best efforts could not prevent a 9-3 thrashing of SSG by the KT Wiz. The outfielder is now a hitting a league leading .342. Heredia is also tied for second in the KBO with 44 RBIs.
