Cuba doubles up Curaçao evens and its record at the JCC.

Yoennis Yera was masterful tossing five innings of three-hit one-run ball in Cuba’s 4-2 win over Curaçao in the Antilleans second game of the Central American and Caribbean Games. The lefty from Matanzas, Cuba also fanned six hitters in the outing.

It was Yera’s first win with the national team after 13 starts. After five scoreless innings Cuba got on the board first via a two-run shot by Roel Santos. Curaçao added a run in their half of the fifth via a Raysheandall Michel homerun to pull within a run.

Guillermo Avilés later knocked in Yoelkis Guibert via a sixth inning double as a pinch-hitter for Yunior Ibarra to make it 3-1 Cuba. Naikel Cruz retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh Dayán García laced a triple and was driven in by Yoelkis Guibert to make the score 4-1.

Yeudis Reyes opened up the seventh by allowing three hits and a run to the first four batters he faced and was quickly replaced by the teams management. Franklyn Quintana came in and got Cuba out of a first and third one out jam by retiring the final two batters he faced to secure the win. Tomorrow Cuba faces an Venezuela at 6:30 PM.
