The Cuban team that will compete in the Intercontinental Baseball Series will adopt the name : “FEPCUBE, Patria y Vida.” After extensive deliberations and consultations with fans, the Cuban Professional Baseball Federation chose to merge its initials with the phrase that has become a call for freedom for Cubans worldwide.
“Reaching this conclusion was not easy, but it was necessary for everyone to know that we represent a free Cuba and that we carry in our name the spirit of Homeland and Life,” said Armando Llanes Jr., president of the federation.
The team has generated great expectations amongsr both fans and players, as it marks the first time that a Cuban team not affiliated with the Cuban Federation participates in an international tournament, thus establishing a historical precedent. Orlando “El Duque” Hernández and Brayan Peña will assume the responsibility of forming a highly competitive team, carefully selecting from a list of 175 available players.
“We have the necessary quality to build a team that plays with passion and dedication,” said Hernández. Although participation in Colombia already represents a victory, Peña emphasized that the commitment will be to stand out even more.
“We have achieved something unprecedented. We will give our maximum effort on the field of play to emerge victorious.” The name “FEPCUBE, Patria y Vida” encapsulates the Cuban identity and yearning for freedom, providing additional motivation to elevate Cuba’s name to new heights in the Intercontinental Series.
