Miguel Romero to take the mound tomorrow for La Guaira. (+Winter League News)

As we reported yesterday Miguel Romero signed with the Tiburones de La Guaira just hours after being released by the Tomateros de Culiacán. The right-hander is scheduled to start tomorrow for the Venezuelan squad against the Margarita Bravos. With Culiacán Romero had a 2-2 record and a 3.43 in four starts.

The 29-year-old also has the potential to unleash a 100-mph fastball. With the inclusion of Romero in the World Classic Classic, Cuba had a one of strongest bullpens in the event and it showed as it reached the semifinals of the tournament for the second time in its history. The hurler was the anchor of the Cuba’s pitching staff leading the WBC in wins (2), strikeouts (13) and placed in top three in ERA (2.08) en route to all-tournament honors.

In other news, the LBPN hits leader Rubi Silva signed with the expansion Conspiradores de Querétaro of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. This season with the Tigres de Chinandega he is hitting .353 with three longballs, 16 RBIs and is slashing .376/.490/.866. Silva saw action last season with Campeche batting .206 in 17 games with the Piratas.

Silva also saw action with Laguna in the LMB with Laguna. In his five seasons in the Cubs organization the Cuban hit a solid .282 and made it as far as AAA (Iowa). The versatile hitter will add a stabilizing veterans’ presence to the team’s lineup and could open door for himself in the future for various leagues worldwide.
