On Sunday, February 4th, 2024, baseball fans gathered at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey for a meet-and-greet with Yankees greats – Jose Contreras, Aroldis Chapman, Orlando Hernandez, and Jose Cardenal – during the Pinstripe Pride event by Hall of Fame Signings. Attendees had the chance to chat, take photos, and score autographs from these iconic players.
Jose Contreras signed a four-year deal with the Yankees after defecting from Cuba in 2002. During his tenure donning the pinstripes, Contreras had a 15-7 record, 4.64 ERA, and 154 strikeouts.
Orlando Hernandez, known as “El Duque,” had two stints with the Yankees from 1998-2002 and 2004. He became a pivotal figure in the team’s success, clinching three World Series championships from 1998-2000. Hernandez’s 61 wins, 3.96 ERA, and 703 strikeouts solidified his place in Yankees lore.
Aroldis Chapman, joined the Yankees in 2016 in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. He was then traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he would win his first World Series championship. He returned to the Yankees in 2017 until 2022. In his seven-season he recorded 153 saves, 453 strikeouts, and a 2.94 ERA.
Jose Cardenal did not play for the Yankees but played an instrumental role in the Yankees’ coaching staff. He joined in 1996 as the first base coach, contributing to the team’s championship success during the late ’90s.
